New Rider Course

The New Rider Training course will give you the confidence you need to ride safely. We will take you from no experience to be road test ready in less than two weeks.

  • Certified programme that meets ICBC standards, and allows us to offer the Motorcycle Skills Assessment (MST)
  • Motorcycle supplied; we have a selection of bikes for riders of all sizes and riding styles
  • Road Test preparation included.  We provide a pre-test ride with evaluation and feedback to ensure RT readiness.

For Potential Riders with No (or very little) Previous Riding Experience:

Learn to ride with confidence.  The V-Twin New Rider Course is the complete package:

  • Motorcycles supplied, and a helmet if you need it
  • Thirty+ hours training, including:
  • 7 hours theory (generally two evenings) on line
  • 11 hours Motorcycle Skills training + Motorcycle Skills Test
  • 11 hours In Traffic Training - small groups (maximum 5)
  • Road Test pre-test ride - to ensure you are properly prepared for final Road Test

Theory topics:

  • preparing to ride - the licensing process, managing risk, riding gear selection
  • why Positive Visual Reference is so important.
  • motorcycle controls, how motorcycles steer, turn, and balance
  • Introduction to traffic skills - space management, observation, communication
  • Traction and control
  • Special riding situations
  • Sharing the ride

Motorcycle Control Skills:

  • Steering and Balance, Speed Control
  • Introduction to Positive Visual Reference
  • Changing gears, steering at higher speeds
  • Proper braking technique
  • Sudden stops
  • Motorcycle Skills Test

Traffic Skills and good riding habits:

  • Space management - lane position, space cushion
  • Practicing Positive Visual Reference
  • Observation - path of travel, situational awareness, blind spots
  • Communication - predicting traffic, and being predictable
  • Sharing the road with others.

The Approach

We offer a three phase training package that breaks down into classroom instruction, parking lot training and when you are ready, road riding.

Small class sizes makes for an efficient program – more riding, less waiting in line means up to 30% more riding time than at other schools.
